Monastery BANJSKA Srpski
Monastery Banjska is located on river Banjska close to Kosovska Mitrovica and it was founded by king Milutin, the greatest serbian church founder. Monastery is dedicated to Saint Stephen and it was built in the beginning of the XIV century, modelled after the Virgin church in Studenica, to be the mausoleum of king Milutin.

Monastery Banjska is located on river Banjska close to Kosovska Mitrovica and it was founded by king Milutin, the greatest serbian church founder. Monastery was built as a mausoleum of king Milutin between 1312. and 1316. Aldough king Milutin founded many churches, Banjska was most important as his mausoleum. The church was built on a place of older temple which was the seat of Archbishopric of Banjska, during the rule of Milutins father king Uroš I. King Milutin gave to Banjska high status among serbian churches so it fallowed Studenica, Mileševa and Sopoćani.

Banjska is different from other churches founded by Milutin which were built in late byzantine style, and it was modelled after Virgins church of Studenica, founded by Stefan Nemanja.

Banjska is single-nave building with dome, built in developed style of raška. Archbishop Danilo, who was kings spiritual advisor, probably brought masons from the coastal region who used hewn stone in three colors. The church had been decorated with sculptures but only one remained and its the seated statue of Virgin with Christ, kept today in nearby monastery of Sokolica.
